“The one who says, “I have come to know him,” and yet doesn’t keep his commands, is a liar, and the truth is not in him. But whoever keeps his Word, truly in him the love of God is made complete. This is how we know we are in him: The One who says he remains in him should walk just as he walked.” 1 John 2:4-6 CSB https://bible.com/bible/1713/1jn.2.5.CSB
The will, the Word, and the way. The will of God is that we obey Him. If we love Him, we will keep His commandments. This proves our confession, baptism, and commitment to the community of believers and our Lord Jesus. If we love God, we will keep His Word. To love God is to know God, and knowing God means knowing His Word. His Word is our food, our joy, our wisdom, our way, and our life. Daily, we eat of Jesus. We drink His blood by feasting at His voice found in the Scriptures graciously given to us by Him for knowing Him so that we can be like Him, doing the will of the Father in the world. This is the way we are to live, like Jesus. Jesus did not come to do His will but the will of the One Who sent Him. Jesus did this will by coming not to be served but to serve God, laying down His life as a sacrifice so that others could live forever in the kingdom of God. Those who live as Jesus lived sacrifice their lives by making the kingdom of God their highest priority. They serve people, which elevates Jesus so He can draw people to Himself, creating opportunities for us to share Jesus with everyone around us until all those we know and don’t know come to saving faith in Jesus and escape the Judgment to come. This is God’s will for us, described in His Word and modeled by His life.
