(Mrk) 6:12 CJB “So they set out and preached that people should turn from sin to God”
The church’s failure to make disciples has consequences far beyond Sunday morning. When Christians neglect God’s Word and abandon the Great Commission, we should not be surprised when our culture increasingly rejects biblical truth.
Mark 6:12 (CJB) describes the mission Jesus gave His disciples: “So they set out and preached that people should turn from sin to God.”
That’s the message America desperately needs today!
Elections Reveal a Spiritual Problem
Following yesterday’s elections, many Christians are discouraged by Democratic victories and the continued influence of a political platform that conflicts with biblical convictions on abortion, marriage, and sexuality.
The Democratic Party supports abortion rights and legal recognition of same-sex marriage. Its approach to gender identity also conflicts with traditional Christian teaching about the created distinction between male and female.
These are not minor disagreements for Christians who believe God’s Word establishes the standard for human life and conduct.
But our greatest problem isn’t a political party.
It’s a church that has neglected its mission!
For decades, too many churches have compromised biblical teaching, accommodated cultural expectations, and substituted religious activity for genuine discipleship.
We have entertained people without teaching them to obey Jesus.
We have counted attendance without examining spiritual maturity.
We have encouraged people to identify as Christians without consistently calling them to repentance.
And now we’re surprised that our culture doesn’t share our convictions?
The Church’s Failure to Make Disciples
Jesus never commissioned His church to win elections.
He commanded us to make disciples!
Matthew 28:19–20 instructs us to go, make disciples, baptize them, and teach them to obey everything He commanded.
Not merely believe. OBEY!
Yet how many professing Christians regularly read God’s Word?
How many intentionally share the gospel with unbelievers?
How many personally invest in helping another Christian grow in obedience?
We cannot expect a culture to embrace biblical truth when the church itself neglects that truth.
The problem isn’t that unbelievers behave like unbelievers.
The problem is that too many believers fail to live like disciples!
Repentance Must Begin With Us
Before condemning the culture, Christians must examine themselves.
Are we obeying Jesus?
Are we teaching our children God’s Word?
Are we proclaiming repentance and salvation through Christ alone?
Are we making disciples who make disciples?
Political victories cannot accomplish what only the gospel can do.
Legislation may restrain wrongdoing, but it cannot regenerate a sinful heart.
Only Jesus saves!
And the church has been entrusted with proclaiming that message.
Our responsibility isn’t to make Christianity culturally popular. It’s to remain faithful to Christ, regardless of whether we’re the majority or minority.
Choose Whom You Will Serve
Joshua challenged Israel:
“As for me and my household, we will serve ADONAI!” (Joshua 24:15 CJB)
Men, we face that same decision.
Will we follow cultural expectations or God’s commands?
Will we complain about elections or commit ourselves to evangelism and discipleship?
America doesn’t primarily need more Christians winning political arguments.
America needs more Christians obeying Jesus Christ!
We cannot guarantee cultural transformation. But we can faithfully proclaim the gospel, make disciples, and trust God with the harvest.
Run Today’s Play
Are you more committed to changing America’s government than to obeying Christ’s command to make disciples?
Repent and return. Examine your obedience to God’s Word. Identify where you’ve compromised and make the necessary changes today.
Make a disciple. Share the gospel with an unbeliever this week and intentionally invest in helping another man follow Jesus.
Men, stop waiting for politicians to accomplish what Christ commanded His church to do!
Preach repentance. Teach obedience. Make disciples.
As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord!
