“Therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin, and in this way death came to all people, because all sinned— To be sure, sin was in the world before the law was given, but sin is not charged against anyone’s account where there is no law. Nevertheless, death reigned from the time of Adam to the time of Moses, even over those who did not sin by breaking a command, as did Adam, who is a pattern of the one to come.” Romans 5:12-14 NIV https://bible.com/bible/111/rom.5.12-14.NIV
“After John was put in prison, Jesus went into Galilee, proclaiming the good news of God. “The time has come,” he said. “The kingdom of God has come near. Repent and believe the good news!”” Mark 1:14-15 NIV https://bible.com/bible/111/mrk.1.15.NIV
Most people do not see themselves as sinners. They are good people, they believe. They measure their goodness by their own standards and not God’s standards. Though they would argue He commands us not to murder, and they haven’t or steal, or lie, and they would argue they don’t do these things of any significance, they remain in their sin because they arrogantly believe they are good. The obviousness of being born sinners is death. Death entered the world upon the rebellion of the first man against God and now resides in the DNA of every man. Every human is a rebel against God, just as every infant child rebels against their parents. Everyone dies, and no one really wants us to, including God. Therefore, God came to us in Jesus the Savior to rescue us from the condemnation we deserve for sin and give us the eternal life He originally intended for us to always have. Jesus died as a human sacrifice for all the sins of humanity. Jesus rose from the dead, proving His sacrifice was accomplished, and His promise of eternal life with Him is true. We must now respond to God’s mercy and grace by faith in His word that He has indeed lived among us as one of us, His death was for us, and He rose from the dead to deliver to us the peace with God we need to live forever on the new earth. This response begins with the admonition that we are rebels against God, refusing to seek Him or do His will, not just not do the most extreme bad things that no one should do. Repentance is turning away from the things for which Jesus died upon the cross, including our refusal to love God with all of our heart, soul, mind, and strength, evidenced by doing everything we can to love our neighbors into the eternal kingdom of God. The good news is that God loves us, has come to restore us, and offers us eternity with Him and one another to never die again if we will simply trust His historical actions as true and follow Jesus as our Lord.
