Declared Righteous by God: Why Your Identity Is Secure in Christ

(Num) 23:8, 21, 23 CJB “How am I to curse those whom God has not cursed? How am I to denounce those whom Adonai has not denounced? “No one has seen guilt in Ya‘akov, or perceived perversity in Isra’el; Adonai their God is with them and acclaimed as king among them. thus one can’t put a spell on Ya‘akov, no magic will work against Isra’el. It can now be said of Ya‘akov and Isra’el, ‘What is this that God has done?!’”

What God declares, no man can overturn.

This is not wishful thinking. This is not positive self-talk. This is God’s verdict.

What It Means to Be Declared Righteous by God

To be declared righteous by God means your standing before Him is not based on your performance but on His provision.

Israel, though flawed and often disobedient, was seen by God through His covenant. In the same way, the Church—those covered by the blood of Jesus—is seen through the righteousness of Christ.

Jesus, the spotless Lamb, lived perfectly, died sacrificially, and rose victoriously so that His righteousness could be credited to His people.

You are not righteous because you practice righteousness.
You are righteous because God has declared you so through Christ.

This is the foundation of your identity.

The Tension: Position vs. Practice

Here’s where men often struggle.

We know our reality.

We battle sin.
We fail in leadership.
We fall short in purity, consistency, and obedience.

Like Israel from Exodus to Deuteronomy, the visible people of God often look far from perfect.

Yet God says:

“No guilt… no perversity… I am with them.”

Why?

Because our position is secured by Christ, even while our practice is being transformed.

This is not permission to sin—it is power to change.

What God Declares No One Can Change

Balaam couldn’t curse what God had blessed.

And today, no enemy—spiritual or human—can overturn what God has spoken over His people.

  • Not your past failures
  • Not your current struggles
  • Not the accusations of the enemy

If you are in Christ, you are:

  • Forgiven
  • Pardoned
  • Accepted
  • Declared righteous by God

This is not fragile. This is final.

God publicly defends His people, even while privately disciplining them as sons He loves.

Called to Live What Has Been Declared

Now comes the charge.

The Church is not holy because it practices holiness.
The Church practices holiness because it has been declared holy.

Because you are:

  • Declared righteous → pursue righteousness
  • Declared holy → live holy
  • Declared accepted → obey confidently

Jesus obeyed the Father perfectly—and now calls us to follow Him.

Not to earn identity, but to express it.
