Luke 13:23-24 (NIV) “Someone asked him, ‘Lord, are only a few people going to be saved?’ He said to them, ‘Make every effort to enter through the narrow door, because many, I tell you, will try to enter and will not be able to.’”
Men, let this land heavy on you. One of the most terrifying truths Jesus ever spoke came from what seemed like a softball question: “Will only a few be saved?”
He could have said, “Many.” He could have said, “Everyone who believes.” But He didn’t.
Instead, He warns: “Make every effort.”
God’s imagery here is brutal. Not wide. Not easy. Not popular. He calls it narrow, hard, and exclusive. And He makes it clear—many will try but fail to enter.
This is the exact opposite of our culture’s lie: God loves everyone, so He accepts everyone. All roads lead to the same mountain where God dwells.
That’s what men want to believe, because it costs nothing.
But Jesus says different. The truth is—
-
We don’t want to humble ourselves.
-
We don’t want to repent of sin.
-
We don’t want to obey His commands.
-
We want to chase money, comfort, and pleasure—on our terms.
But that rebellion will keep us out of the Kingdom of God.
Yes, God loves everyone. But not everyone will be saved. Only those who repent, deny themselves, and die to their own agenda will enter. Men, the time for feasting is coming in His eternal Kingdom. But the time for fighting—the time for working—is now.
Ask yourself: what evidence is there in my life that I’m making every effort to live forever with God through Jesus Christ?
Because in the end, it won’t be talk that proves it—it’ll be the effort.
