God Wants Us Eternally Wealthy

“Sell your possessions and give to the poor. Make money-bags for yourselves that won’t grow old, an inexhaustible treasure in heaven, where no thief comes near and no moth destroys. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. “Be ready for service and have your lamps lit. You are to be like people waiting for their master to return from the wedding banquet so that when he comes and knocks, they can open the door for him at once. Blessed will be those servants the master finds alert when he comes. Truly I tell you, he will get ready, have them recline at the table, then come and serve them.” Luke 12:33-37 CSB https://bible.com/bible/1713/luk.12.33-37.CSB

The Lord wants His people to pursue wealth and success so that He might reward them when we meet Him to claim our inheritance through Jesus our Lord. Jesus, God in the flesh, says to make money-bags for ourselves. These bags, the wealth God wants us to pursue, are not earthly silver and gold. It is not prominence and power among men. It is not Cadillacs and mansions, as the pagans pursue, who have no love for God or hope of eternal life. The wealth God encourages His people to pursue, the treasure that is eternal that God will reward, comes from serving God by serving people, the greatest of which is laying down our lives so that others can hear and see the gospel even as Jesus laid down His life so that all of us can receive the gospel of salvation. Serving God involves meeting the physical needs of people and creating opportunities to solve the spiritual needs of all people. Treasure is earned when service is given to people, especially those who despise and persecute us for righteousness sake so that people can inherit eternal life. Denying ourselves is losing our fear of man, whether in opinion or persecution until everyone we know comes to faith in Jesus. As Jesus suffered to become the Savior, those building heavenly treasure will suffer for identifying with Jesus and insisting all men must receive Jesus as Savior to please God and live with Him for eternity. Worldly wealth perishes and is most useful for helping others become reconciled to Jesus. Treasure in heaven is obtained by doing God’s will on earth so that the world can be reconciled to Jesus.
