How Can The Wealthy Get To Heaven?

“Instruct those who are rich in the present age not to be arrogant or to set their hope on the uncertainty of wealth, but on God, who richly provides us with all things to enjoy. Instruct them to do what is good, to be rich in good works, to be generous and willing to share, storing up treasure for themselves as a good foundation for the coming age, so that they may take hold of what is truly life.” 1 Timothy 6:17-19 CSB https://bible.com/bible/1713/1ti.6.19.CSB

In Matthew 19, Jesus tells a rich man seeking to enter heaven that if he wanted to be perfect, he must sell everything and follow Him. Since the rich man was unwilling to do this, Jesus, Who is God, commented on how hard it is for the rich to enter the kingdom of heaven. Before this demand, Jesus told the rich man to obey the law to enter heaven. The rich man had done that. Possibly, these are some of the good works Paul is commanding Timothy to instruct the rich to do. While the rich are to be generous, God, through Paul, does not command that all they have be sold and given to the church. The underlying instruction to the rich is to keep Christ the focus. Their hope for eternity is upon Him, not wealth or works, and to store heavenly treasure so they might receive eternal life. Heavenly treasure is earned in many ways but is primarily obtained when the lost are found, the dead are brought to life in Christ, and from persecution for being diligent to accomplish this mission left to the Church until Christ returns. Giving our time, talent, and treasure, as much as possible, as often as possible, to seeking and saving the lost and teaching obedience to the saved until all of us reach maturity in Christ, becoming just like Him, is the purpose of every Christian. The wealthy can multiply this effort through their influence among leaders and their ability to pay for others to engage globally while laboring diligently locally. The Great Commission is the mission of every Christian. It requires every Christian to be about the Father’s business to show ourselves good soil, producing thirty, sixty, and a hundredfold based on the talents and treasures the Lord has entrusted to us for use for His glory.
