For if I preach the gospel, I have no reason for boasting, because I am compelled to do this. Woe to me if I do not preach the gospel! For if I do this voluntarily, I have a reward. But if I do it unwillingly, I am entrusted with a responsibility.” 1 Corinthians 9:16-17 NET https://bible.com/bible/107/1co.9.17.NET
Few Christians have the gift of evangelism. Fewer still are doing the work of an evangelist, and the evil in our society demonstrates this lack of work. The first group operates from its strength. They are compelled to exercise this gift. The second group denies their responsibility, for we have all been commanded to witness God’s work at Calvary and its impact upon our lives, yet we remain unwilling to obey. Everyone sees the increase of evil in our world. 24/7 media doesn’t allow us to miss the most recent murder and acts of brutality men do against one another in defiance of God. Hopelessness and depression at the possibility of changing our world for the good increase, causing despair and suicide. Yet we, as Christians, are not without hope. We, as Christians, have the answer: obedience to God’s command to love Him and to love one another. Would we love each other as we love ourselves, the end of evil will occur. How can this happen? We must be born again. We must come to faith in Jesus and then obey His commands. How do we gain faith? Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God. Christians must share the gospel with people who don’t have Jesus in their lives. Unwillingly or willingly, it makes no difference to the requirement for obedience. We become more willing as we love God more and love people more. We must pursue the Great Commandment so that we obey the Great Commission. We are the world’s hope, for God has determined so through the message of His Son to be shared by His church.
