Paul’s Example Of Evangelism

Acts 17:2-3, 11, 23, 31 NIV “As was his custom, Paul went into the synagogue, and on three Sabbath days he reasoned with them from the Scriptures, explaining and proving that the Messiah had to suffer and rise from the dead. “This Jesus I am proclaiming to you is the Messiah,” he said. Now the Berean Jews were of more noble character than those in Thessalonica, for they received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day to see if what Paul said was true. For as I walked around and looked carefully at your objects of worship, I even found an altar with this inscription: to an unknown god. So you are ignorant of the very thing you worship—and this is what I am going to proclaim to you. For he has set a day when he will judge the world with justice by the man he has appointed. He has given proof of this to everyone by raising him from the dead.”  https://bible.com/bible/111/act.17.3-31.NIV

To those who had a Biblical basis for their belief in God but did not understand the Scriptures, Paul argued for salvation through Christ as the promised Messiah by God, Who was predicted in those Scriptures. For those who were ignorant entirely of those Scriptures but were god worshippers, Paul argued for the proof of the One True God in Jesus by virtue of His creation and resurrection. Those who responded well and knew of the Scriptures searched those Scriptures for understanding and came to believe. Those ignorant of the Scriptures were persuaded by the gospel message of God’s work in the world and the Holy Spirit, Who convicts of judgment to come. People in America are ignorant of the Scriptures for the most part but are influenced in their belief about God by cultural Christianity so sharing Biblical truth is still possible. Sharing Jesus in Latin America, where there is a great Catholic influence, would also be effective by using the Scriptures. In Asia and still much of Africa, the work of God through Jesus must be explained, emphasizing the resurrection of the dead, which is an arguably historical event. In all cases, the Holy Spirit must convict a person of their sin, God’s righteousness in Christ, and the judgment to come where we will be held accountable to God’s standard in Christ or pardoned by God’s work through Christ. Jesus lived the life we are all to live. The perfect life Jesus lived is impossible for any of us to live. The consequence of failure is condemnation unless we repent and receive forgiveness for our sins and appropriation of His righteousness. For all humanity, people need to know this situation, and the Church is responsible for making Jesus known so that some may be reconciled with God
