The Holy Spirit, Who comes to live within the children of God, those born again by the Spirit of God, empowers and leads us into obedience to everything Jesus commands. The Holy Spirit does not give us new information but takes God’s word planted by our reading and studying in our hearts and minds and makes practical application of it so that we can obey Jesus daily. When we ignore God’s word and place little of His word into our hearts and minds, the Holy Spirit is little active in our lives. Though some claim the Spirit told them this or that, when what they were told denies the Scripture and disobeys its application, they blaspheme the Spirit and are misled by their feelings, not led by God. Too many claim their actions are Spirit led but are feelings directed because those actions do not reflect the teaching and way of Jesus. The Holy Spirit empowers us to obey Jesus so that we glorify Him in this world, living as He lived and doing the deeds He did when He lived among us. His work is the seeking and saving of the lost through serving and suffering so that others can experience the love of God and be reconciled to Him. We are truly living in the Spirit when we are saturating our hearts and minds with God’s word so that we give substance to the Spirit, Who then applies that word in our lives and through our lives so that our lives glorify God on earth as He is glorified in heaven.
