Working With An Eternal Perspective Rather Than A Temporal One

““Do not work for the food which perishes, but for the food which endures to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give to you, for on Him the Father, God, set His seal.” Therefore they said to Him, “What should we do, so that we may work the works of God?” Jesus answered and said to them, “This is the work of God, that you believe in Him whom He has sent.” (John 6:27–29 LSB)  https://accordance.bible/link/read/LSB#John_6:27

I wish i could get every Christian to believe these words of Jesus and do them. I wish i myself were far more productive in producing the fruit of a man who lived these words. So simple to understand. Do not work for the food that perishes. God warns us, commands us, pleads with us, do not waste your life pursuing, wanting, and obtaining the things that wont help us live forever with God and with all those who have ever lived these words. We are eternal beings with an eternal purpose. This is a temporary stop on a temporary world. We get lost on the second part of Jesus’ words in this passage. The work of God is to believe in Him. Obviously, that is true but as we don’t simply show up to work one day and say we are workers so too we don’t simply believe in Him then go about living as pagans. Believing in Jesus as Savior and Lord is committing our lives to knowing Him, serving Him, and loving Him. The work of God is the salvation of the world, influencing the world to believe in Jesus as Savior and Lord of all. This work has been entrusted to His church which is why Christians are on earth and not in heaven upon their own discovery of Jesus as Savior and Lord. We are that church, therefore we are God’s workers, His means for bringing belief to the rest of the world. This is to be our primary work, our primary activity after seeking our God and praying for His kingdom to come to earth and His will to be done on earth as it is in heaven. The answer to this prayer is our diligence at completing His work of seeking and saving the lost by sharing the gospel and teaching obedience to everything He has commanded us. This is the eternal work, the work God will reward, the work God is asking us to pray for laborers to accomplish of whom we are to be part of His answer to that prayer so that His kingdom increases and His glory abounds.
