“But so that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins,” – he said to the paralytic – ……When Jesus heard this he said to them, “Those who are healthy don’t need a physician, but those who are sick do. I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners.”” Mark 2:10, 17 NET https://bible.com/bible/107/mrk.2.10-17.NET
Are you a sinner? Have you wronged God? Man? I have and regrettably continue to do so. God has come to forgive sinners. We need forgiveness. How else will we be reconciled to God? All those but only those who come to Jesus for forgiveness of sins will be welcomed by God into His eternal dwelling place. Those who only look to men for their forgiveness will find those men incapable of forgiving them before God. Only Jesus has the authority on earth to forgive sins. He has not given this authority to another. The church is to proclaim Him. The keys of the kingdom entrusted to His church are to open the door to reconciliation with Jesus, Who forgives the sinner who is truly repentant and willing to forsake everything to follow Him. We may need to ask men to forgive us for our sins committed against our neighbor, but we ultimately must ask God to forgive us for our sins against Him, including our failure to love our neighbor as He commands. No other religion promotes One Who alone has the authority to forgive sins. All the gods determine entrance into their supposed heavens, but only One God has come to earth, demonstrating His authority to forgive sinners so they can live forever with Him in His kingdom. This same God rose from the dead, revealing Himself to hundreds as living proof that life everlasting is certain upon receiving forgiveness of sins.
