Being A Christian Means Obeying Christ

Hebrews 5:9, 11-14 NIV records, “and, once made perfect, he became the source of eternal salvation for all who obey him…..We have much to say about this, but it is hard to make it clear to you because you no longer try to understand. In fact, though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you the elementary truths of God’s word all over again. You need milk, not solid food! Anyone who lives on milk, being still an infant, is not acquainted with the teaching about righteousness. But solid food is for the mature, who by constant use have trained themselves to distinguish good from evil.” https://bible.com/bible/111/heb.5.9-14.NIV

Jesus was made perfect when He completed living His perfect life as a man, then offered Himself upon the cross as punishment for all the sins of all those who come to Him for eternal salvation. Those who come to Him for salvation assume the responsibility to live like Him by obeying everything He commands, even as He obeyed every word from His Father. This obedience begins with repentance from everything that Jesus died on the cross for our doing. Obedience continues by believing in Jesus alone for our salvation and not in any goodness we think we have done or might possess by birth. The Christian life continues by loving Jesus with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength, which is made evident by spending time with Him in Scripture and prayer and sharing Him with others, for that is the purpose of our remaining here on earth. Many who claim to be Christian have grown weary of trying to know Jesus by disciplining themselves in the habit of daily prayer and bible reading. These same Christians disciple no one, not teaching the ways of God to everyone so that all of us obey everything Jesus commands. They do not practice obedience, so they compromise with the world, making it confusing to the seeking Who God is and what He requires of humanity. If we would prove our salvation by our obedience to our Savior, we would live as Jesus did, Who obeyed every word of Scripture while seeking and saving the lost to establish His kingdom upon earth as it is in heaven.
