“On that day David decreed for the first time that thanks be given to the Lord by Asaph and his relatives: Give thanks to the Lord; call on his name; proclaim his deeds among the peoples. Sing to him; sing praise to him; tell about all his wondrous works! Boast in his holy name; let the hearts of those who seek the Lord rejoice. Seek the Lord and his strength; seek his face always. Remember the wondrous works he has done, his wonders, and the judgments he has pronounced, you offspring of Israel his servant, Jacob’s descendants — his chosen ones.” 1 Chronicles 16:7-13 CSB https://bible.com/bible/1713/1ch.16.7-13.CSB
It is appropriate to read about David’s gratefulness on our Thanksgiving Day. It is indeed good to give thanks to the Lord. The Lord delights in the praises of His people, and praise is a result of gratitude. The Lord detests grumbling but rejoices in those who praise His Name, grateful for all He has done. The Lord Himself remains positive toward His world because of what He has done to restore to Himself all of creation. The Lord is glorified by the works of His hand, the pinnacle of which is His presence through Jesus, Whose death on the cross reconciled humanity to Himself and Whose resurrection restored forever His rule and reign over all with all those who have loved Him. Therefore, let the people of God rejoice in what God has done for us in Jesus the Savior. Mercy and grace have come to us, the love of God has been revealed to us, and eternal hope has been offered to us, so now we rejoice, looking forward to even greater joy and celebration when the King comes, the earth is renewed, and the people of God are clothed with eternal righteousness. Blessed is the Lord God, Who loves us and has revealed Himself to us so we can live with Him forever.
