“Look! I have taught you statutes and ordinances just as the Lord my God told me to do, so that you might carry them out in the land you are about to enter and possess. So be sure to do them, because this will testify of your wise understanding to the people who will learn of all these statutes and say, “Indeed, this great nation is a very wise people.” In fact, what other great nation has a god so near to them like the Lord our God whenever we call on him? And what other great nation has statutes and ordinances as just as this whole law that I am about to share with you today?” Deuteronomy 4:5-8 NET https://bible.com/bible/107/deu.4.6.NET
The pastor made clear in his message Sunday that the United States is not a promised land, a new nation of God. This comment, no doubt, is a swipe at the Christian nationalism the left promotes as coming from the conservative church. The pastor added the United States is no more a new nation of God than Kenya or other nations. His words are accurate, but the insinuation is incorrect. The difference between the United States and other nations is our founding upon Biblical law. All of our founding documents, each of the states and then our national constitution, are full of reference to God and laws derived from the Biblical text. At the founding of this nation, the people in power were predominantly Christian and sought to create a government and society that permeated with Christian values. They succeeded, and prosperity resulted because most people applied God’s ways. We proved our wisdom by our laws, and so our wisdom, obeying God’s ways, made us the healthiest and wealthiest nation on the planet. Now that the majority rebel against God’s ways, our leaders predominantly pagan whose objective is to dismantle our former laws, we are falling headlong into the poverty all the other nations whose people largely reject God experience. Our universities, media, and government continue to malign God’s ways, ridicule God’s people, and rewrite and distort our Christian history. The church is God’s new ‘nation’ across the globe and worldwide. Each nation’s church is responsible for building His kingdom on earth as it is in heaven so that wherever people exist, the wisdom of God’s ways can be clearly seen and eagerly desired. When the church is obedient to its task of discipling all people by teaching obedience to all of Jesus’ commands in their nation, that nation will prove itself wise. It will prosper because God blesses the nation where He is honored as Lord.
