Do not participate in the unfruitful deeds of darkness, but rather expose them. For the things they do in secret are shameful even to mention. But all things being exposed by the light are made evident. For everything made evident is light, and for this reason it says: “Awake, O sleeper! Rise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you!”” Ephesians 5:11-14 NET https://bible.com/bible/107/eph.5.14.NET
The Christian has become increasingly less evident in society, being difficult to distinguish in morality from the pagan who Iives near them and works with them. Politics is where the difference has traditionally been the most obvious. One political party advocates for abortion, homosexual marriage, transgender celebration, and other behaviors the Bible, which is God’s instruction for how humanity is to live, condemns and commands Christians to abstain. In this verse today, Christians are told to even expose these behaviors as wrong, at least discussing this in the church so that Christians do not engage in these deeds God will condemn with all the other behaviors He has told us not to engage in. The church must reengage discussion within its walls of what God condemns and condones so that the people of God are more evident in the world. Sadly, many Christians embrace the politics and thus the morality of that party promoting by law things God condemns. Christians are confused about God’s ways because they sleep rather than study God’s word, so we wonder where God is when our world is in chaos, and He seems far from us. The Scripture is God’s instruction book for living, revealing His character and nature so we can love and obey Him. We are not naturally like Him; therefore, we must be exposed to Him through regular Bible reading, prayer, and meeting with His people to remind us of the ways of God so that we will walk in them and not live as people who ignore Him.
