Daily Intake Of Scripture Is Required For Healthy Christian Living

When he is seated on his royal throne, he is to write a copy of this instruction for himself on a scroll in the presence of the Levitical priests. It is to remain with him, and he is to read from it all the days of his life, so that he may learn to fear the Lord his God, to observe all the words of this instruction, and to do these statutes.” Deuteronomy 17:18-19 CSB https://bible.com/bible/1713/deu.17.18-19.CSB

One of the duties of the king of Israel was to make his own hand copy of the law and then read from it daily. This practice would thoroughly ingrain the will of God into his mind, hopefully forming the ways of God in his life. It is not recorded that any king of Israel obeyed this command. How beautiful would the practice of every homeschooled and Christian school child be if they were required to hand-copy the New Testament for themselves before graduation? How much further would this practice aid in developing Christianity in the hearts and minds of the children who conducted such a practice? The critical thought is that none of us can grow in Christ without knowing the word of God so that we can obey the will of God. Godliness is the result of obedience, and obedience is defined in the word of God. It was this word Jesus had to obey perfectly so that He could offer Himself a perfect sacrifice. It was this word He commanded His Apostles to teach for making disciples so that His future followers would all become obedient children of God. Daily intake of Scripture is required for healthy Christian living, whether we make our own copy of those Scriptures or not.
