Dependent Upon God Not Independent From God

Hezekiah received the letter from the messengers and read it. Then he went up to the temple of the Lord and spread it out before the Lord. And Hezekiah prayed to the Lord: Now, Lord our God, deliver us from his hand, so that all the kingdoms of the earth may know that you, Lord, are the only God.” Isaiah 37:14-15, 20 NIV https://bible.com/bible/111/isa.37.20.NIV

One of God’s great delights is showing Himself good, loving, and faithful to His people. God delights in our coming to Him with our needs in humility because we understand we cannot deal with some of life’s issues without His help. Jacob feared the revenge of his brother, so God came and wrestled with him all night, ending with a promise of blessing. Hezekiah feared destruction by Assyria, so he prayed earnestly for God’s intercession and was assured by the prophet Isaiah that God would deliver Israel. Paul was arrested in Jerusalem with more than 40 men committed to killing him when the Lord came to him and promised that he would yet get to Rome to testify about the risen God, Jesus. In different ways, but consistently, the Lord assures the humble who seek Him for help that He will be their protector and provider, even if that means in the next life, by protecting them until they arrive and providing eternal life upon their arrival. What keeps us from experiencing more of the goodness of God is our lack of coming to Him with our needs and seeking Him consistently for His presence. Often, God is a last resort with Whom we make the least effort to seek or please. Sometimes, we must wrestle all night like Jacob before God reveals Himself. God is our Father. He wants our pursuit and, like the little child, constant affection and attention to meet our needs.
