“Is it not true that if you do what is right, you will be fine? But if you do not do what is right, sin is crouching at the door. It desires to dominate you, but you must subdue it.” Genesis 4:7 NET https://bible.com/bible/107/gen.4.7.NET
This is the human condition, responsibility, and choice that will determine our eternal destiny. If we do what is right, not as we define it but as God defines it, for He is the ultimate Judge of what is right and the Rewarder of our choices, whether good or bad. Sin, the desire to disobey God and do what we please, lives inside us. It is always at hand, telling us by our feelings what it seeks to do. Our will must be controlled by our thoughts, which are to be in harmony with God’s will and dictate our actions regardless of the desire of our feelings. We must subdue our feelings by doing what pleases God and not what we want to do. We know this truth whenever we set a goal, go on a diet, or compete in a contest. Training and discipline require saying no to our lazy or hungry desires and instead not eating, eating better, or working out. The word of God is His gift to us for knowing the will of God, which is why we must discipline ourselves to read it, meet with others doing the same for encouragement, and then do it daily, weekly, monthly, and annually so that we stand before the Judge of our words and actions as those who have done what is right and so are welcomed into His kingdom rather than those who ignored Him and are condemned because they lived by their wants and desires.
