Is Your Food The Same As God’s?

“Jesus *said to them, “My food is to do the will of Him who sent Me and to finish His work. Do you not say, ‘There are yet four months, and then comes the harvest’? Behold, I say to you, lift up your eyes and look on the fields, that they are white for harvest.” John 4:34-35 LSB https://bible.com/bible/3345/jhn.4.34-35.LSB

What motivates us? For God the Son, it is, and it was doing the will of God the Father so that we could live forever with Him. Jesus describes doing God’s will, His food. This ‘food’ of God He invites us to eat. The work the Son of God accomplished was to die on the cross as punishment for all the sins of all men so that He could pardon all men for their sins upon His resurrection. The work of men, who belong to Him and His church, yet unfinished, is to spread the good news of Jesus’ work to everyone everywhere until all people believe, receive, and obey Jesus as Savior and Lord. The world is a mess. It is ripe for harvest, available to the man who loves Jesus, making his food finishing the work of God. This man will be like Jesus and, like Jesus, will be warmly welcomed by Jesus in the kingdom of heaven for faithfully obeying Him by going and making disciples of all people. The church is to be like Jesus doing the work of Jesus in the world. Our motivation, our food, is to see people love Jesus and obey His commands. Does this truly motivate us at home, work, and in our neighborhoods?
