Getting closer to God

Hebrews 2.1 warns we might drift away.

Like Israel complaining to Moses for food and water shortly after crossing the Red Sea so too the author of Hebrews commands his readers to listen, and assuming apply, carefully to the gospel lest they drift away.

The election results from last night in the presidential race demonstrate that much of the church has indeed drifted away from a knowledge and comprehension of Biblical truth and from the understanding of how and why this nation was founded and became great.

Much of the church is Biblically ignorant and apparently disinterested in applying God’s Word to their life. We have drifted from hungering and thirsting for God and a godly response to Him which is the surrender of our lives completely for His glory upon the earth.

Because we have not understood the character and nature of God we support those things that are the antithesis of God’s ways and will.

Our lives reflect more self-interest than God interest with the result that we live disobedient, narcissistic lives.

We must understand that it is not our default to love God and please Him; we are not naturally good though we were created as such. We are naturally sinful, our mind is deceived and our root love is self.

It is only by the power of the Holy Spirit with hearts and minds made new through the Word of God that we begin to know God and live lives pleasing to Him.

God has revealed Himself through His Word and left us record of His Word so that we can completely obey Him as we earnestly seek Him.

These next few years are going to be hard economically, politically and socially but they can be great spiritually if we will diligently seek to know and obey our God.

Mike & Robin Simpson:Hi Pastor Craig, Yes indeed He is meruficl. In Luke 1: 46-55, I love the words of Mary where she talks about His having mercy and being faithful to those who are humble and fear Him. I love how it mentions He remembers His promises to Abraham and generations to come. This might seem like a silly question, but since we are not from Abrahams line, and are grafted into His family, that does extend to us, correct? I know He sure is meruficl to me! Have a great day in the Lord and keep warm!! Brrrrrr it is cold here in Florida in the 40 s. His love & ours, Robin

Indeed those who love God and are reconciled to Him through Jesus the Lord are indeed recipients of Abraham’s blessings.
