Getting Free From The Burden Of Legalistic Living

“Therefore, my brothers and sisters, you also were put to death in relation to the law through the body of Christ so that you may belong to another. You belong to him who was raised from the dead in order that we may bear fruit for God.” Romans 7:4 CSB https://bible.com/bible/1713/rom.7.4.CSB

The requirements of God for how people are to live are defined in the law of God. Every person breaks the law of God. One law broken is to break the entire law. The Lord Jesus, born of a virgin so He did not contain our sinful DNA, obeyed perfectly from birth to death the law of God just as Adam should have when he was made in the image of God. In Jesus, Who perfectly obeyed the law but died as a sacrifice for all those who break the law, the requirements of the law no longer apply. All those who look to Jesus for their forgiveness for disobedience to God’s law and receive His pardon by faith in His work are free from the condemnation that men are under for breaking God’s law. We who are in Christ are free from condemnation and live lives pleasing to God without the consequence of failing to live those lives perfectly. Now, we can live to please God, seeking to glorify God always because He has pardoned our past and promised us a future with Him if we continue to love Him and walk in His ways. He is not a reset to obey the law again. He is giving us an entirely new life that is only capable of pleasing God by living as Jesus did, not to obey the law perfectly but to love sacrificially everyone who is still straining under the bondage of the law to please God by telling them the good news that frees them from both the burden of the law and the consequence for failing to obey the law.
