Godly Parenting Is America’s Future Hope

78:5   For He established a testimony in Jacob And set a law in Israel,  Which He commanded our fathers That they should teach them to their children, 6 That the generation to come might know, even the children yet to be born, That they may arise and recount them to their children, 7 That they should set their confidence in God And not forget the deeds of God, But observe His commandments,8 And not be like their fathers, A stubborn and rebellious generation, A generation that did not prepare its heart And whose spirit was not faithful to God.” (Psa. 78:5 LSB).  https://accordance.bible/link/read/LSB#Psa._78:5

In recent years a debate has occurred over the belief that America is a christian nation. President Barack Obama said we were not and certainly the lack of christian morality being displayed by the majority of citizens would prove him right. There was a day when he would have been wrong based upon the moral values believed and lived by the majority of Americans. The church was a very strong influence in our founding and while not everyone believed in Jesus or followed His commands, most people certainly did. Those days are past. But new days could arise if those who call upon the Name of Jesus for salvation today will be faithful to teach their children who will proclaim Him as Lord tomorrow. It is the work of parents to raise godly children by faithfully teaching them God’s ways, holding to God’s standards, and modeling God’s commands. Modern parents reject God’s prescribed means for raising children following instead the enlightened ways of the pagans in the universities. We shall see if these new ways yield better results than their grandparents at helping children believe in God and follow His commands. Discipline must be accompanied by a spiritual fervency for God, a passion for God and doing His work. This is what the previous generations lacked when they disciplined their children to be moral people but not passionate people for the Lord Jesus. We are to love the Lord our God with all of our heart, soul, mind, and strength. Unless we live this ourselves we cannot teach it to our children and if we continue to fail to raise disciples of Jesus we will see a further eroding of our country’s moral fabric with the church further losing it’s influence in the land.
