“”Don’t let your heart be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me. In my Father’s house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I am going to prepare a place for you?….. “Peace I leave with you. My peace I give to you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Don’t let your heart be troubled or fearful.” John 14:1-2, 27 CSB https://bible.com/bible/1713/jhn.14.1-2.CSB
Last night, I spent the night in a hotel outside of Louisville, KY, because our van broke down yesterday when we were trying to come home from Nashville, TN. I hope it will be repaired today, and I can return home with minimal financial damage. I am troubled by my lack of finances and the hassle of driving old cars due to that lack of finances. Jesus says not to be troubled by this world and promises me peace. Later, Jesus says we will have trouble in this world, but we must take heart because He has overcome the world. God is not flippant with my car troubles. He reminds me that car troubles will pass and are certainly not the major issues in life. The biggest fear we all have is death and what happens afterward. Jesus gives His peace to those who love Him and obey His commands for passing from this life into the next. He provides peace from the fear of eternal condemnation because He lived a perfect life on earth and offered His perfect life as a sacrifice to be punished for my imperfect life. He rose from the dead, proving His sacrifice was acceptable and that He can take me into heaven, not because I have been perfect but because He was perfect and already paid for my imperfection. I don’t have to be troubled that if my car breaking down had caused me to get run over by a semi, I would go to hell. I don’t have to be troubled; I won’t make heaven if I never make enough money to buy new cars. I have peace with God through my Lord Jesus Christ because of what He has done for me and His promise to me. So today, I thank Him for my future and ask Him for some practical mercy on this car situation today!
