John 14.9 records, the person who has seen Me has seen the Father! How can you say, ‘Show us the Father’?
Jesus is the only ‘prophet’ Who claimed to be God. It was this claim that made Him so hard to believe in by those who lived with Him during His three years of ministry. All of us would no doubt similarly struggle were a friend we had known for 30 years suddenly leave his skilled trade to enter ministry claiming to be God. It really wasn’t until His resurrection from the dead that the disciples finally ‘believed.’
It was Jesus’ claim to be God that forced the Jewish religious leaders to have him killed at the hands of the Romans. After all, if Jesus really was God their religion was going to take a whole new direction and meaning. Most of us like our religion more than we like truth.
Later, Mohammad, not understanding Jesus as God, likewise rejected Jesus’ claim to deity so instead set himself up as the last great prophet. Mohammad never claimed to be God neither do his adherents believe he was raised from the dead fully human or fully divine after leaving this world.
Hindus are fine welcoming Jesus into their cadre of gods but they don’t find Him to be any more significant than any of their other lesser gods. It is only the Christian Who claims to have one God and that God claims to be Jesus.
The Christian doctrine includes the Trinity; One God in three persons, Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Yet it alone claims God has lived upon the earth as one of us, a man like the rest of us, yet God greater than all of us in order to make a place for those of us who will follow Him as Savior, Lord and God.
The beauty of this Christian God, Jesus, is that He can be heard from and learned of through the Bible. Anyone who will carefully read the gospels will be able to comprehend Who God is, what God requires and the destiny God desires for all humanity.
Most people throughout the world believe in God but remain ignorant of Who He really is because they haven’t taken the time to get to know Him. God has made knowing His character, will and ways easy to understand but we must pick up the Bible and be willing to explore Him for ourselves.
If there really is a God doesn’t it make sense that He would want us to know Him? He has indeed made Himself known, He is Jesus.
