2 Kings 17:34, 37, 41 NIV “To this day they persist in their former practices. They neither worship the Lord nor adhere to the decrees and regulations, the laws and commands that the Lord gave the descendants of Jacob, whom he named Israel… You must always be careful to keep the decrees and regulations, the laws and commands he wrote for you. Do not worship other gods… Even while these people were worshiping the Lord, they were serving their idols. To this day their children and grandchildren continue to do as their ancestors did.”
A Warning for Every Man
Israel had one calling: worship the one true God and walk in His ways.
Instead, they mixed devotion to the Lord with loyalty to idols. Their disobedience proved unfaithfulness, and God allowed them to lose the land He promised.
God now offers a New Covenant in Jesus Christ, but His standard is unchanged:
worship Him alone and prove it by obedience.
Why We Struggle
God’s commands are good—love others, forgive, be patient, serve.
Yet like men who know how to get healthy but keep choosing the couch, we keep feeding selfishness and pride. We want God’s blessing without surrendering our will.
The Call of Christ
Through Jesus, forgiveness and eternal life are offered freely.
But saving faith shows itself in obedience—a life that loves God first and most, empowered by the Holy Spirit to follow His commands.
“If you love me, keep my commands.” —John 14:15
