(Col) 2:6-7 CJB “Therefore, just as you received the Messiah Yeshua as Lord, keep living your life united with him. Remain deeply rooted in him; continue being built up in him and confirmed in your trust, the way you were taught, so that you overflow in thanksgiving.”
To remain deeply rooted in Christ is the lifelong calling of every disciple. Conversion is not the finish line of the Christian life—it is the starting line. Paul reminds us that just as we received Jesus Christ as Lord, we are to continue living in Him, remaining deeply rooted, continually being built up, and growing stronger in our faith. The Christian life is not a one-time decision but a daily pursuit of the Person of Jesus Christ.
The disciple never graduates from knowing Christ. He simply goes deeper.
Remain Deeply Rooted in Christ by Knowing Him
Jesus did not save us merely to forgive our sins. He saved us to bring us into fellowship with Himself.
This relationship begins when we repent of our sin, confess Jesus as Lord, and are welcomed into the family of God. But that relationship is designed to grow every day.
Why?
Because God is infinite.
We will spend eternity exploring the endless depths of His greatness, wisdom, holiness, love, and glory. If knowing God is our eternal joy, then it should also become our daily pursuit today.
We remain deeply rooted in Christ by opening His Word, listening to His voice, studying His truth, and discussing His ways with other believers.
We love Him because He first loved us.
And those who love Him desire to know Him more.
The Daily Rhythm of Every Disciple
Jesus taught us that the greatest commandment is to love God with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength.
Love always seeks relationship.
Every healthy relationship grows through time together.
The same is true with Christ.
We spend time with Him through:
- Reading and studying Scripture.
- Prayer and praise.
- Worship and thanksgiving.
- Fellowship with other believers.
- Walking in step with the Holy Spirit.
These are not religious duties meant to earn God’s favor.
They are the ordinary means by which God transforms us into the image of His Son.
As our roots grow deeper in Christ, our lives become stronger in Christ.
Remain Deeply Rooted in Christ to Reach Others
Jesus never withdrew from people because He loved solitude.
He withdrew to spend time with His Father so He could faithfully minister to people.
His private communion fueled His public ministry.
The same pattern should shape every disciple.
The more time we spend with God, the more we will love what God loves.
We begin seeing people through His eyes.
We become more compassionate.
More courageous.
More generous.
More eager to reconcile others to God through Jesus Christ.
The goal of abiding in Christ is not merely personal growth.
It is fruitful ministry.
God strengthens us so He can send us.
He roots us deeply so others may find life through our witness.
This is the daily rhythm of discipleship:
Time with God.
Time with God’s people.
Time serving those who need God.
Until the day when every knee bows and every tongue confesses that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
