(Isa) 13:3 CJB “I have ordered my holy ones, summoned my heroes, eager and bold, to execute my anger.”
Every man longs to be a hero. It’s why stories of courage, sacrifice, and victory have captivated men throughout history. We were created in the image of a great and glorious God, designed to accomplish great things—not for our own fame, but for His glory. Sin has twisted that God-given desire into the pursuit of our own kingdom, but through Jesus Christ, God restores men to become heroes whose lives point others to Him.
Isaiah 13:3 reminds us that God calls His people to be “eager and bold” in carrying out His purposes. The greatest heroes are not those who make their own name great, but those who make God’s name known.
A Hero for God Lives for God’s Glory
The Bible’s greatest heroes were not extraordinary because of their natural abilities. They were ordinary men who trusted an extraordinary God.
They were holy because they focused upon God and not themselves.
Abraham left everything to obey God’s call.
Moses confronted Pharaoh despite his fears.
Joshua courageously led Israel into the Promised Land.
David stood before Goliath because he believed God’s honor was worth defending.
The prophets boldly proclaimed God’s truth, often at great personal cost.
The apostles preached Christ despite persecution, imprisonment, and even death.
What united them?
They sought God’s glory above their own.
They feared God more than man.
They obeyed when obedience was costly.
Be a Hero for God by Making Him Known
God’s heroes have always been men on mission.
The Apostle Paul traveled thousands of miles to proclaim the good news of Jesus.
The early church endured suffering because they refused to stop speaking about Christ.
Their message was simple:
God’s righteous wrath against sin was satisfied through the death of Jesus Christ for all who repent and believe.
Today, God continues extending mercy through the gospel.
But the day is coming when Christ will return as Judge and King. Those who refuse to bow before Him now will face His righteous judgment then.
That reality should stir every Christian man to action.
A hero for God does not remain silent while people are separated from their Creator.
He speaks.
He serves.
He prays.
He shares the gospel.
He makes disciples.
He lives so others may know the Savior.
Heroes Fear God More Than Men
One of the greatest obstacles to faithful discipleship is the fear of man.
We fear rejection.
We fear criticism.
We fear being labeled intolerant or old-fashioned.
Yet throughout Scripture, God’s heroes consistently chose courage over comfort.
They understood that pleasing God mattered more than gaining the approval of people.
That same choice confronts us today.
Will we quietly blend into the crowd?
Or will we boldly identify with Jesus?
Christianity was never meant to be passive.
God is not looking for spectators.
He is looking for men eager to obey Him, courageous enough to stand for truth, and compassionate enough to call others to repentance and faith in Christ.
The world does not need more famous men.
It needs more faithful men.
Men who be a hero for God by living every day for His glory and the advance of His Kingdom.
