If You Are Going To Follow Jesus, Then…….

Luke 9.57-62 observes, on the road someone asked if he could go along. “I’ll go with you, wherever,” he said. Jesus was curt: “Are you ready to rough it? We’re not staying in the best inns, you know.” Jesus said to another, “Follow Me.” He said, “Certainly, but first excuse me for a couple of days, please. I have to make arrangements for my father’s funeral.” Jesus refused. “First things first. Your business is life, not death. And life is urgent: Announce God’s kingdom!” Then another said, “I’m ready to follow you, Master, but first excuse me while I get things straightened out at home.” Jesus said, “No procrastination. No backward looks. You can’t put God’s kingdom off till tomorrow. Seize the day.

Three things we must understand if we are going to follow Jesus as His disciples. His call is difficult, His call is about proclaiming His kingdom to men and His call is urgent. (more…)

The Problem is Simple, Ignorance of Truth

Hebrews 5.14 observes, but solid food is for the mature, who by constant use have trained themselves to distinguish good from evil.

This is the problem with so many Christians today, particularly among the youth, they have no discernment between good and evil. Like the world, the media, the university professor, they call good evil and evil good. This is because they have not put to constant use the solid food of the Word of God. (more…)

Why Are You A Christian?

Mark 1.17 invites us to come, follow Me, Jesus said, and I will send you out to fish for people.

Why have we come to Jesus as Savior? Is it because of the guilt we feel from our evil deeds and we seek forgiveness for all we have ever done wrong against God and man? Jesus can do this, making His pardon possible by His death on the cross for all sin by all humanity from all time. (more…)

God’s Work is Every Christian’s Work

Zechariah 11.16 warns, I am about to raise up a shepherd in the land who will not care for those who are perishing, and he will not seek the lost or heal the broken. He will not sustain the healthy, but he will devour the flesh of the fat sheep and tear off their hooves.

The opposite of the bad shepherd is the man of God who makes his chief work the serving of God for the building of His kingdom upon earth as it is in heaven. (more…)

Few Are Those Living As Jesus Lived

Ezekiel 7.19 describes, they will throw their silver into the streets, and their gold will seem like something filthy. Their silver and gold will be unable to save them in the day of the Lord’s wrath. They will not satisfy their appetites or fill their stomachs, for these were the stumbling blocks that brought about their iniquity.

It is our love for money that keeps us from loving God. We say we love God not money yet our love is proved by our deeds and not by our words. We don’t skip work, we work to earn the money we need to buy the things we want. Yet we skip church, we skip prayer, we skip Bible reading and study, we skip sharing Jesus with the world around us. Why? (more…)

Measuring our Work

Romans 12.11 commands us to never be lazy, but work hard and serve the Lord enthusiastically.image

Most men over 40 are pretty committed to working hard. We were raised that way. We remember buying our own school clothes, buying our first car and paying for college. Our parents didn’t have a lot and even if they did they required us to work for what we wanted as well.

Overall I would say we are the better for it. (more…)

Believing is Not Enough

Romans 2.7 promises, He will give eternal life to those who keep on doing good, seeking after the gloryimage and honor and immortality that God offers.

Believing isn’t enough.

The regrettable consequence of the Church’s message these past 50 years is a culture mostly uncommitted to the ways and work of God. Since its founding by God, the Church has always had the responsibility to communicate who God is and what God requires of humanity. (more…)

Living Like Jesus

John 20.21 defines the Christian destiny, as the Father has sent Me, so I am sending you.images

Jesus, God, left His message and work of reconciling the world to Himself through Jesus the resurrected Savior, in the hands of His followers.

What are Christians supposed to give their lives to? Making disciples. How are Christians supposed to do this work? As Jesus did. What does this look like? We are to live as Jesus lived while He lived with us on the earth. How did Jesus live? Simply, humbly and purposefully. (more…)

God’s Definition of Greatness

Luke 1.15 promises he will be great in the sight of the Lord.images

Few men don’t desire to be great. Its inherent to our nature. It comes from our origin: we are made in the image of God.

God is great and ever increasing in glory so too those made in His image aspire to greatness. Since being kicked out of paradise for our rebellion we have perverted the object or goal of our greatness. Most of us want others to see and recognize us as great, the reason our natural desire is perverted. (more…)

What Does God Want from Us?

Luke 14:33 claims those of you who do not give up everything you have cannot be my disciples.image

The God Who made the universe and all it contains…The God Who sustains the universe and everything in it…The God Who is larger than the universe…this God compressed Himself into a human being so that He could communicate His love to us in a way we would understand through both His words and His deeds.

This is the story of God Christianity and the Bible tells. (more…)
