Jeremiah 9.3 observes, they refuse to stand up for the truth. They only go from bad to worse. They do not know me, says the LORD.
What is truth? Since at least 1960 the rhetoric has been that there is no truth. This belief has allowed social changes to occur by sweeping away thinking that previously held to certain belief’s about what is right and what is wrong. The result of this myth has been increasing societal chaos.
If we applied this belief to engineering or medicine we would have bridges collapsing, planes crashing, and surgery’s going horribly awry. Math and science depend upon truth so that they can reach conclusions upon which they can base further premises.
When the Church began to accept the culture’s premise that there is no absolute truth it lost its voice with the result that everyone does what is right in their own eyes leading to an increase in moral chaos.
When God came to live among us as one of us, He described Himself as the Truth. Jesus spoke not as a man with an opinion but as God Who is the authority and supreme Judge of what is right and what is wrong.
When the Church began after the death and resurrection of Jesus from the tomb, it proclaimed Him as the Way, the Truth and the means to eternal Life. This got them into trouble with a pluralistic culture inclusive of all religions except one that proclaimed itself as the only true religion. Not unlike today.
While the Church continued to proclaim Jesus alone as Truth and suffer for it, those who accepted their message were exposed to the truth and were required to reorient their lives to the truth. Eventually the lives of those in the Church were perceived to be more healthy and full than those outside the Church such that the culture began to orient their lives around the same values as those held by the Church.
The Church’s predominant influence has been quickly eroding since the 1960’s when science became the new dominant voice in culture. This voice ‘proved’ God didn’t exist and that truth didn’t exist (except within math and science). The Church capitulated and so we have lost our way, our voice and our connection to our God.
The solution is simple. The Bible, the Truth recorded, outlines what a people must do if they will return to God and reclaim it’s voice so that its culture might know peace and health again.
The Church must return to it’s God by humbling itself, praying, seeking Jesus through the Scriptures, and stop disobeying God’s commands. Then God promises He will hear our prayers, forgive our sins and heal our land.
