The Word of God Produces Fruit: Why Every Christian Man Needs Daily Scripture

(Jhn) 15:2-3, 10, 16, 27 CJB “Every branch which is part of me but fails to bear fruit, he cuts off; and every branch that does bear fruit, he prunes, so that it may bear more fruit. Right now, because of the word which I have spoken to you, you are pruned. If you keep my commands, you will stay in my love — just as I have kept my Father’s commands and stay in his love. You did not choose me, I chose you; and I have commissioned you to go and bear fruit, fruit that will last; so that whatever you ask from the Father in my name he may give you. And you testify too, because you have been with me from the outset.”

The Word of God produces fruit in the life of every believer who abides in Christ. In John 15, Jesus teaches that the Father’s Word prunes us, His commands keep us, and His commission sends us into the world to bear lasting fruit. If we neglect God’s Word, we should not expect God’s fruit.

The Word Prunes Us

Jesus told His disciples, “Right now, because of the word which I have spoken to you, you are pruned.”

God’s Word cuts away pride. It exposes sin. It confronts selfishness and unbelief. At times the process is painful, but pruning always serves a purpose—to make us more fruitful.

A branch left untouched becomes unproductive. A believer who ignores Scripture becomes spiritually stagnant.

The Word Keeps Us

Jesus also said, “If you keep my commands, you will stay in my love.”

The Christian life is not sustained by emotion but by obedience. As we remain in His Word, we remain close to Him.

The Holy Spirit uses the Scriptures stored in our hearts to remind us of God’s truth when temptation comes. He brings to mind what we have learned so that we can choose obedience over compromise.

No Bible in the heart means little truth for the Spirit to recall in the moment of testing.

The Word Produces Fruit

Jesus did not merely save us from sin; He chose and commissioned us to “go and bear fruit, fruit that will last.”

That fruit includes Christlike character.

It includes obedience to His commands.

It includes leading others into reconciliation with God through the gospel.

The Word we faithfully receive becomes the Word we faithfully proclaim.

Be Men of the Word

Jesus called Himself the Bread of Life. Just as our bodies require daily nourishment, our souls require daily feeding on God’s truth.

We should read it.

Study it.

Meditate on it.

Discuss it.

Apply it.

Share it.

The more God’s Word fills our minds, the more God’s character shapes our lives.

Our speech changes.

Our conduct changes.

Our priorities change.

Our witness becomes more effective.

And God receives greater glory.
