“Now the whole world had one language and a common speech. Then they said,…..“Come, let us build ourselves a city, with a tower that reaches to the heavens, so that we may make a name for ourselves; otherwise we will be scattered over the face of the whole earth.”….The Lord said, “If as one people speaking the same language they have begun to do this, then nothing they plan to do will be impossible for them. Come, let us go down and confuse their language so they will not understand each other.” So the Lord scattered them from there over all the earth, and they stopped building the city. That is why it was called Babel—because there the Lord confused the language of the whole world. From there the Lord scattered them over the face of the whole earth.” Genesis 11:1, 4, 6-9 NIV https://bible.com/bible/111/gen.11.1-6.NIV
One of the great human difficulties is the language barrier between people. Unity is hindered by the inability to communicate. Why are there different languages in the world? Like the answer to why there is evil in the world is that humans choose to be god instead of recognizing the One True God as God and worshipping Him. God responds to our rebellion against Him with judgment that should cause us to repent and follow Him. Our difficulties are self-inflicted wounds from rebellion against God. Originally, God created humanity to be His sons and daughters. Unity of purpose, language, and destiny was His plan for us, but we wanted nothing to do with His rule over our lives, though it is good and best for us. We continue to go our own way, choosing our own purpose and destiny and giving God an occasional recognition, at best. Life is hard because we disobey God. Life is hard even when we obey God now because so many others refuse allegiance to Him in Jesus, the Savior of the world. God will recreate the heavens and the earth when He returns to earth, recreating the bodies of those who love Him now with bodies that will live with Him forever. When God and His people live together on the new earth, it will be forever, with one language, in joy, peace, love, and unity because all will acknowledge Jesus as King of kings and Lord of lords. People will no longer rebel against God, but all will obey His good commands, for they bring life and health to our mind, body, and spirit.
