“So I turned my attention to the Lord God to seek him by prayer and petitions, with fasting, sackcloth, and ashes…..we have sinned, done wrong, acted wickedly, rebelled, and turned away from your commands and ordinances….Lord, public shame belongs to us, our kings, our leaders, and our ancestors, because we have sinned against you……. Lord, hear! Lord, forgive! Lord, listen and act! My God, for your own sake, do not delay, because your city and your people bear your name.” Daniel 9:3, 5, 8, 19 CSB https://bible.com/bible/1713/dan.9.3-19.CSB
America, America, the land that I love, was founded by those who wanted the freedom to worship the One True God as they understood the Scriptures commanded, have become proud, arrogant, boastful, and materialistic. Public shame belongs to us as we present the next leader of the greatest nation ever to exist in the world, Kamala Harris or Donald Trump. They represent in so many ways the depravity of our nation. Moral bankruptcy is their lives and policy. Where is the Church? It lies sidelined, confused, an amalgamation of cultural inclusion and spiritual impotence. What do we need? Men and women who will humble themselves before God and pray, who will seek His face and turn from their wicked ways. Then, God will hear our prayers, forgive our sins, and heal our land. Who is broken over the moral demise of this nation? Who weeps for the few who seek God, love Him first and most, and are bent on obeying everything the Lord Jesus commands? Who seeks God and prays earnestly for the salvation of this nation and its restoration to a country whose values align more consistently with those found in Scripture? The Church is to be the leaven in the entire dough. Certainly, we will always have the spiritually poor with us, but the majority, the influencers, and the leaders can be those who love God and seek His kingdom upon earth as it is in heaven. The restoration of the nation, the Church, and the world begins when God’s people humble themselves, pray, confess their sins, and turn from their wicked ways. Will we decide to be such a people?
