“Yet I am always with you; you hold my right hand. You guide me with your counsel, and afterward you will take me up in glory. Who do I have in heaven but you? And I desire nothing on earth but you. My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart, my portion forever. Those far from you will certainly perish; you destroy all who are unfaithful to you. But as for me, God’s presence is my good. I have made the Lord God my refuge, so I can tell about all you do.” Psalms 73:23-28 CSB https://bible.com/bible/1713/psa.73.27.CSB
The presidential debate was last night. How hard it was to watch. The obvious lack of integrity from both candidates is overwhelming. Today, too, marks the 23rd anniversary of the Muslim attack against America in New York City. What these things have in common is the utter failure of people to truly love God and obey His commands. God is the Creator of all people through His creation of two people. God in Jesus is the Savior of all people, not desiring any should live in hell, but all live with Him, restored to Him, in His eternal kingdom. Where is the godly man? Where is the one who loves God most evidenced by obeying God consistently? The psalmist describes the godly man as being with God always. We are with God when we spend time in His word, prayer, and time with God’s people, encouraging each other in obedience. The godly man makes telling others about Jesus his occupation, using his vocation to create interest in the gospel, pay for his ministry, and support others in need and who are working for the kingdom of God. The mission of every Christian is the Great Commission. Purpose and meaning in life should be overflowing and abundant to Christians, as evidenced by love, joy, and peace as we spend time daily with God and work with God to seek and save the lost. This is the life of the godly man. Is that the life you are living?
