Psalm 73.23-28 records, “Yet I am always with you; you hold me by my right hand. You guide me with your counsel, and afterward you will take me into glory. Whom have I in heaven but you? And earth has nothing I desire besides you. My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever. Those who are far from you will perish; you destroy all who are unfaithful to you. But as for me, it is good to be near God. I have made the Sovereign Lord my refuge; I will tell of all your deeds.” Psalms 73:23-28 NIV https://bible.com/bible/111/psa.73.23-28.NIV
These words were fulfilled by the Messiah, Jesus, Whom we call Christ or Savior. As He headed for the cross, these words written for Him hundreds of years earlier, He now embraced them as He prepared to pay by His blood for the sins of humanity who come to Him alone for their reconciliation with God. These words can also be echoed in our hearts if we truly love God the most. Is He our greatest desire? Do we truly desire nothing on earth besides intimacy with God? It is this love for God that brings us close to God so that He truly does become our greatest desire and deepest joy. Knowing Him provides assurance from Him that we will live forever with Him. God always is, and He will always be with those He loves forever. Those who reject God place their souls in eternal jeopardy. God is eternal and has created humanity in His image, which will also now live eternally. Those who love God will live forever with God, but those who reject Jesus as God and Savior will spend eternity away from God and His people in suffering and torment forever. Those who love God and are reconciled to God through the goodness of God, Whose love is most manifested in the life, death, and resurrection of the Lord Jesus, will tell others of His love so that no one will perish forever but that all might come to everlasting life with God in paradise.
