Christian Work Is To Be Notable And Continual

“For the one who was called in the Lord as a slave is the Lord’s freedman. In the same way, the one who was called as a free person is Christ’s slave. You were bought with a price. Do not become slaves of men……I am saying this for your benefit, not to place a limitation on you, but so that without distraction you may give notable and constant service to the Lord.” 1 Corinthians 7:22-23, 35 NET https://bible.com/bible/107/1co.7.22-35.NET

As Christians, what are we commanded to do? How are we commanded to live? We are to give notable and constant service to the Lord. Why? Because God has purchased us to serve Him. Jesus is our Master, and we are His slaves. We used to be slaves of sin, self-indulgent, self-gratifying, and seekers of pleasure and glory. Seeing the folly of that way of living, understanding its reward is death from God and eternal separation from all those who love Him, we serve Jesus. How do we serve Him? We serve Jesus by living as Jesus lived and doing what Jesus did and still does by His Spirit. The Holy Spirit has come to convict the world of sin, righteousness, and judgment. This occurs as the word of God is spoken by the people of God so that those who don’t know God are convicted of their sin, understand the righteousness of Jesus, and the responsibility they will be held to when they die before Him, Who judges all men. This is why we who are in Christ are designated as witnesses for Christ so that all people everywhere may be reconciled to God through Christ. This work we must do and must continue to do. The work makes an eternal impact on the lives of those who believe and those who speak will receive an eternal reward from God, as those who obey His commands as good and faithful servants.
