Heaven Or Hell Is Determined By Christian Obedience

“Jesus said to them again, “Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, I also send you.” After saying this, he breathed on them and said, “Receive the Holy Spirit. If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven them; if you retain the sins of any, they are retained.“” John 20:21-23 CSB https://bible.com/bible/1713/jhn.20.22-23.CSB

The Great Commission is the mission of every Christian. In John, he records it simply as Jesus sending us as He was sent. How was He sent? Full of power from on high to do miracles and reveal God’s truth from His word. This same Holy Spirit power is now given to His Church to powerfully reveal God’s presence within us by our love for one another, capacity to love our enemies, and ability to suffer injustice peacefully. Likewise, the Holy Spirit empowers us with wisdom from on high, with reminders of everything Jesus has taught us so that we know what to say to His glory when sharing Him with men. John also reveals the consequences of our obedience to the mission of going to others with the gospel. When we are faithful, people repent and believe, and then they are forgiven and saved to live together with us and God forever. But when we are disobedient and fail to share God’s love with others through the gospel, people remain in their sins, condemned to an eternity of suffering and torment in hell because they did not believe. We must ensure that people don’t believe because they refused Him, Who offered them Peace with God through the gospel. These people will cause us to suffer now for their unbelief. Those who don’t believe because they were not challenged to do so due to our disobedience will suffer eternally while we enjoy peace now but must stand before our Lord, ashamed for our burying of His talent. We will miss the joy of reward for faithfully bringing Him a return on His gift to us, which was meant to increase His kingdom upon the earth as it is in heaven.
