How Are Christians Supposed To Respond To These Days?

Psalms 34.14 command, turn from evil and do good; seek peace and pursue it.

What should we do in these divisive times? How should we treat one another when opinions about what is right and wrong are so different?

The One True God, the only God, the Creator, Sustainer and Judge of all that is, was or ever will be, has told us what to do. We are to turn from evil and do good, to seek peace and pursue it. What does this mean? It means stop provoking one another toward evil.

Stop burning flags, stop destroying property, stop carrying guns to intimidate, stop yelling at each other. Instead serve one another, help one another, listen to one another, show compassion for one another. Do everything possible to be at peace with one another and continue pursuing peace. This will mean not always saying what we think or feel. This will mean focusing on what we can to encourage, build up and serve one another.

All those who claim to be Christian, and they exist on both sides of all the issues we fight over today, must first and always obey the Lord Who is our God. The mission of the Church, all of the Church, is to teach obedience to everything Jesus has commanded. The Lord Whom we call Father, has commanded His children to love one another, to be at peace with one another, to build up one another in their most holy faith.

What about the Marxist, the communist, the despiser of God and all of His ways? The law must punish the evil doer, that is its purpose, and not we ourselves. We must turn the other cheek, go the extra mile, give more than is required of us. How can we do these things?

Not by strength nor by might but by God’s Spirit living in us, working through us, to reveal Himself to us and all the world that God is love and in Him is peace everlasting through Jesus Christ the Lord.
