Colossians 3.10 commands, put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of its Creator.
God the Father has the objective of having all people from all time living with Him forever. This will not be the case but that is because men refuse God rather than because God refuses men. Those who love God, those who turn from rebellion and turn toward obedience, are the children of God.
The goal of the Father is to conform His children into the exact likeness of His Son, Jesus, the Savior of the world. This likeness is in character and commitment to God and His ways. The uniqueness of each individual remains but the love for one another demonstrated to one another is to be just like the Son Who gave His life sacrificially and lived among us as a servant. How do we become jus like Jesus?
While this work is truly God’s work inside of us, through the Holy Spirit, it is fostered by knowing God through what is recorded in the Scriptures. We do not come into this world knowledgeable of God. We must come to know Him through reading, studying, listening and learning the Scriptures. These have been given to us by God so that we can know God and what He requires of us.
Upon knowing Who God is and what God commands, which is the result of frequent engagement of the Scriptures, the Spirit of God living within the children of God, empowers and engages Scriptural truth to be applied practically in our daily life. It is through living out the life of Jesus in our lives that we become increasingly like Him. Obedience to God the Father as commanded in the Word of God is how Jesus lived His life, being recognized as the beloved Son in Whom the Father is well pleased.
So too as we know the Scriptures, listen to the Holy Spirit’s application for us and then do what He says, for His honor and glory among men, we too come to live lives pleasing to God and are recognized by God, men and demons, as children of the Most High God.
