Love the Lord Your God with All Your Heart

(Jos) 22:5 CJB “Only take great care to obey the mitzvah and the Torah which Moshe the servant of Adonai gave you — to love Adonai your God, follow all his ways, observe his mitzvot, cling to him, and serve him with all your heart and being.”

Love the Lord Your God with All Your Heart.

That is God’s repeated call to His people throughout Scripture. Joshua exhorted Israel to “take great care” to obey God’s commands, to follow His ways, to cling to Him, and to serve Him with all their heart and soul.

If there truly is one sovereign Creator—and there is—then His standards, not ours, determine how we should live.

Yet sinful humanity often prefers religion over relationship.

We invent our own rules.

We compare ourselves to others.

We attempt to quiet our consciences with selective acts of goodness while continuing to resist God’s rightful authority.

But God desires something far deeper than outward ritual.

He desires our hearts.

Love the Lord Your God with All Your Heart by Obeying Him

Biblical love is more than emotion.

It is demonstrated through obedience.

Jesus Himself said, “If you love Me, you will keep My commandments.”

To love God is to seek His presence, treasure His Word, pursue His will, and participate in His mission.

Knowing God and making Him known should become our greatest passion, our highest priority, and our deepest joy.

When we genuinely love Him, obedience ceases to be a burden and becomes a delight.

We cling to Him because we know His ways are life.

Religion Cannot Replace a Relationship with God

Many people hope that religious activity or personal morality will earn God’s favor.

Deep down, however, we know our best efforts fall short.

If we struggle to perfectly love our spouse, children, friends, or neighbors, how can we claim to perfectly love a holy God?

Our failures expose our need for grace.

We need a Savior.

God has graciously provided that Savior in Jesus Christ.

Through His perfect life, sacrificial death, and victorious resurrection, Jesus offers forgiveness to sinners and reconciles us to God.

As we trust Him, the Holy Spirit transforms our hearts so that we increasingly love what God loves and desire to obey Him.

The Joy of Loving God

The God of the Bible is patient, merciful, kind, generous, and steadfast in His love.

He created us.

He sustains us.

He pursued us when we rebelled against Him.

He gave His Son to rescue us.

Why would we not love Him with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength?

When we love God first, we become better husbands, fathers, leaders, neighbors, and friends.

His love reshapes our priorities and teaches us to genuinely love people made in His image.

The deepest peace, greatest joy, and strongest hope are found not in the temporary treasures of this world but in a loving relationship with the God who made us and redeemed us through Christ.
