The Great Commission Is the Mission of Every Christian

(Jhn) 4:34-36 CJB “Yeshua said to them, “My food is to do what the one who sent me wants and to bring his work to completion. Don’t you have a saying, ‘Four more months and then the harvest’? Well, what I say to you is: open your eyes and look at the fields! They’re already ripe for harvest! The one who reaps receives his wages and gathers fruit for eternal life, so that the reaper and the sower may be glad together ”

Jesus declared that His very food was to do the will of His Father and complete the work He had been sent to accomplish. Then He turned to His disciples and told them to open their eyes because the fields were already ripe for harvest.

That harvest is still ripe today.

Every one of us can identify family members, friends, neighbors, coworkers, and acquaintances who remain separated from God. Around the world, millions have yet to be reconciled to their Creator through faith in Jesus Christ.

The harvest is plentiful.

The laborers are still too few.

The Great Commission Is the Mission of Every Christian Because God Desires to Save

God takes no pleasure in the death of the wicked but desires that people repent and be reconciled to Him.

Through Christ, He has provided the only means of salvation.

Through the Church, He has entrusted the message of reconciliation.

That means every believer has been given a purpose far greater than earning a paycheck or pursuing personal success.

We are Christ’s ambassadors.

We are His witnesses.

We are called to make disciples by proclaiming the gospel and teaching people to obey everything Jesus commanded.

This is not merely the responsibility of pastors or missionaries.

It is the calling of every follower of Christ.

Lift Up Your Eyes and See the Harvest

Jesus challenged His disciples to look beyond the immediate and see eternal realities.

Too often our attention is consumed by careers, possessions, entertainment, and personal ambitions.

Meanwhile, people around us are searching for hope, forgiveness, and peace with God.

The greatest investment we can make is not in temporary wealth but in eternal souls.

There is no greater work than introducing sinners to the Savior.

There is no greater legacy than helping others become faithful disciples of Jesus.

There is no greater reward than hearing our King say, “Well done.”

The one who sows and the one who reaps both rejoice together because their labor produces fruit that lasts forever.

Make God’s Mission Your Passion

Jesus said His food was doing the Father’s will.

What nourishes us?

What excites us?

What occupies our thoughts and calendars?

As we mature in Christ, His priorities should increasingly become ours.

Making disciples should not feel like an obligation but a privilege.

Sharing the gospel should not be a burden but a joy.

Helping people know God and obey Him should become the defining purpose of our lives.

When the Great Commission becomes our mission, we discover the very purpose for which we were redeemed.

Run Today’s Play

  • Pray for three people in your life who need to be reconciled to God through Jesus Christ.
  • Intentionally begin a spiritual conversation with one of them this week by sharing your testimony or asking about their faith.
  • Evaluate your calendar and priorities. Make one practical adjustment that reflects your commitment to the Great Commission over temporary pursuits.

Men, Jesus found His satisfaction in doing the Father’s work. Let us do the same. Lift up your eyes, the fields are ripe for harvest. The Great Commission is the mission of every Christian, and there is no greater investment than helping someone find eternal life in Christ.
