Proving Our Salavation By Our Works

“Therefore, brothers and sisters, make every effort to confirm your calling and election, because if you do these things you will never stumble. For in this way, entry into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ will be richly provided for you.” 2 Peter 1:10-11 CSB

Repeatedly, the Bible reminds us that we are saved by God’s work completed for us through Jesus the Savior, but we must demonstrate His work by working out our salvation with fear and trembling. Peter tells us to confirm our calling and election. We are to do this by making every effort to prove that God’s work done for us is now working through us to accomplish His purposes in the world. The things that we are to do that will keep us from stumbling are to grow in the knowledge of Christ and in service for Christ. We are to know the Scripture, and we are to obey the Scripture. We are to love Jesus, and we are to share Jesus’ love for others. By living like this, Peter says we make sure to enter the kingdom of heaven. The one who ignores Jesus does nothing for Jesus yet claims to be a Christian has no reason to make such a claim, and no Christian should believe them. It is the Christian who is growing in faith and bearing fruit for Christ that we should fellowship with and become so that the world will see the reality of Jesus in us and embrace Him as Savior through us because of the works we are engaging for Him.
