Reconciliation With God Requires Repentance

Luke 5:10, 24, 31-32 NIV “Then Jesus said to Simon, “Don’t be afraid; from now on you will fish for people.” But I want you to know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins.” So he said to the paralyzed man, “I tell you, get up, take your mat and go home.” Jesus answered them, “It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.”” https://bible.com/bible/111/luk.5.10-31.NIV

The purpose of discipleship, the reason for Jesus’ training of the Apostles, is the Great Commission. Jesus called His chosen twelve fishers of men. What people were they, and now we, who call ourselves Christians, fishing for? All people seeking a Savior from the guilt, shame, and consequence of their disobedience to God. Our schools have perpetrated another lie about human nature, which is that people are born good but become bad as a result of a poor environment. At a minimum, the wise of this world teach humanity is born a blank slate upon which goodness or badness becomes imprinted upon us, causing us to become good or bad adults. The Bible refutes this teaching. All die the consequence of all having sin or rebellion against God in our DNA. We are born ignorant of God, becoming rebels against God and humanity from infancy. Toddlers and children have to be taught about God and righteousness. They are not predisposed to knowledge of Him or adherence to His will. Until we recognize we need a Savior, that we are a morally bankrupt people, and that our thoughts, words, and deeds are not in perfect alignment with the perfect will of God, we will reject our need for a Savior. Repentance is the recognition of our sinfulness, our ignoring and rebelling against God, and our desire to not live life God’s way as prescribed in the Scriptures. Repentance is crying out to God for pardon, mercy, and forgiveness for living in rebellion against Him. Repentance is coming to Jesus in faith, believing in His work that as God, He became man to die for man’s rebellion on the cross only to be raised from the dead as God proving His sacrifice was acceptable and His promise of eternal life with Him reliable. The disciple of Jesus shares Jesus with others in the ocean of humanity, seeking to catch those who are looking for peace with God, the forgiveness of their sins, and eternal life.
