Repent and Live: God’s Call to Turn from Sin and Receive Life

(Ezk) 18:21-23, 30-32 CJB “However, if the wicked person repents of all the sins he committed, keeps my laws and does what is lawful and right; then he will certainly live, he will not die. None of the transgressions he has committed will be remembered against him; for the righteousness that he has done, he will live. Do I take any pleasure at all in having the wicked person die?” asks Adonai Elohim. “Wouldn’t I prefer that he turn from his ways and live? Therefore, house of Isra’el, I will judge each of you according to his ways,” says Adonai Elohim. “Repent, and turn yourselves away from all your transgressions, so that they will not be a stumblingblock that brings guilt upon you. Throw far away from yourselves all your crimes that you committed, and make yourselves a new heart and a new spirit; for why should you die, house of Isra’el? I take no pleasure in the death of anyone who dies,” says Adonai Elohim, “so turn yourselves around, and live!”

Repent and live—this is God’s clear and urgent call to humanity. Through the prophet Ezekiel, God reveals His heart:

Do I take any pleasure at all in having the wicked person die?… Wouldn’t I prefer that he turn from his ways and live?” (Ezekiel 18:23 CJB)

God is not indifferent. He is not cruel. He is love. And in His love, He calls us to turn from our sin so that we may live.

Repent and Live: God’s Desire Is Life, Not Death

From the beginning, humanity has rebelled against God. We pursue our own way, ignore His authority, and live for our own pleasure.

Like children insisting on our own will, we resist God’s rule. Yet God does not respond with indifference—He responds with a plea:

“Repent… turn yourselves away from all your transgressions… for why should you die?” (Ezekiel 18:30–31 CJB)

This is the heart of God.

He does not delight in judgment.
He desires repentance.
He calls us to life.

God’s Holiness Requires Our Repentance

God is perfectly holy, righteous, and just. There is no shadow of evil in Him.

Because of this:

  • Sin cannot be ignored
  • Rebellion cannot be excused
  • Justice cannot be compromised

We often judge God by our own flawed standards, but we are not the judge—He is.

God alone:

  • defines righteousness
  • judges humanity
  • gives life or consigns to death

And yet, in His mercy, He has made a way.

The Way to Live: Repentance Through Jesus

God did not leave us in our rebellion.

He came to us.

In Jesus, God took on flesh, lived in perfect obedience, and gave His life as a sacrifice for our sins.

But He did not lower His standard—He reinforced it.

Jesus declared:

  • He alone is the way, the truth, and the life
  • Our thoughts and words are as condemning as our actions
  • We must be born again
  • We must deny ourselves and take up our cross

This is not optional.

Repent and live is still the call.

The Urgency of God’s Plea

God’s invitation is both humble and urgent:

“I take no pleasure in the death of anyone… so turn yourselves around, and live!” (Ezekiel 18:32 CJB)

This is not a distant command—it is a personal plea.

God has done everything necessary for our salvation:

  • He revealed His will
  • He sent His Son
  • He paid for our sin

What remains is our response.

To refuse repentance is to choose separation from the God who is life.

Men, here’s the truth:

You are not neutral before God.
You are either turning toward Him—or away from Him.

Run Today’s Play:

Examine your life—where are you resisting God’s authority?
Repent—turn from sin in your thoughts, words, and actions.
Confess Jesus as Savior and Lord.
Take up your cross and follow Him in obedience today.

Because in the end:

Repent and live is not just a message—it is your only path to life.

God is calling you.
Turn—and live.
