“Here is my servant whom I have chosen, my beloved in whom I delight; I will put my Spirit on him, and he will proclaim justice to the nations. He will not argue or shout, and no one will hear his voice in the streets. He will not break a bruised reed, and he will not put out a smoldering wick, until he has led justice to victory. The nations will put their hope in his name.” Matthew 12:18-21 CSB https://bible.com/bible/1713/mat.12.18-21.CSB
These words are specifically written about and for the Lord Jesus. I am certainly not the Lord Jesus. I am, however, through the grace of the Lord Jesus and the mercy of God the Father, a son of God, brother of Jesus, and therefore also a servant whom I pray daily the Lord will employ fruitfully for accomplishing His purposes on earth. How did Jesus serve the Father? First, He was full of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit has also been given to me and all those who love Jesus and have yielded their lives to Him as Lord. While in me, I am responsible for obeying Him. Jesus did so perfectly, and I must get better so that Jesus is lifted up and draws people to Himself rather than remaining in my selfish nature and protecting myself. Second, Jesus boldly and unashamedly identified with His message. The gospel is the power of God for salvation to all who believe. I must always present the gospel unashamedly, consistently, and persistently until all people are reconciled to God through Jesus and obey everything He commands. I want to be more courageous and more fruitful in this work. Third, Jesus was gentle and humble, not rude or obnoxious. I have much room for improvement in not shouting, breaking, and bruising people. Jesus invited, served, loved, and engaged people in humility. I need to do the same to be like Him. Finally, the goal of serving God is for people to be reconciled to God through Jesus the Savior. I want more fruit in this work so that when I see my God, and He measures my performance in obedience to His commands, I hear Him say well done, My good and faithful servant, enter into the joy of your Master.
