God’s Means For Solving Man’s Problems Is You
Job 24.12 observes,…
Proverbs 28.9 promises, anyone who turns his ear away from hearing the law —
even his prayer is detestable.
Everyone prays but not everyone is heard. The Lord is holy, He is God. He is not Santa Claus. Those who pray to Him must be those who listen to Him.
Hosea 11.12 describes, Ephraim surrounds me with lies, the house of Israel, with
deceit. Judah still wanders with God and is faithful to the holy ones.
We hear often that we humans don’t like change. Our prayers reflect this disdain, often asking God for protection and safety instead of faith and courage. (more…)
Proverbs 28.9 describes, anyone who turns his ear away from hearing the law — even his prayer is detestable.
Nearly everyone prays, even the atheist in his darkest hour. We all pray because we all have times in our life where we have run out of resources to help us, so we cry out to Him Who is outside of our resources and has the power by His resources to help us in our time of need. (more…)
2 Corinthians 5.6 observes, we are always confident and know that while we are at home in the body
we are away from the Lord.
Paul is speaking about our physical body though he is encouraging us about our future body. Paul reminds us that while we live on earth we are not at home with the Lord. Our true destiny, our true residence, our true happiness, is with Jesus where He is living bodily; with Him forever. (more…)
Luke 24. 28-31 records, they came to the edge of the village where they were headed. He acted as if He were going on but they pressed Him: Stay and have supper with us. It’s nearly evening; the day is done. So He went in with them. And here is what happened: He sat down at the table with them
. Taking the bread, He blessed and broke and gave it to them. At that moment, open-eyed, wide-eyed, they recognized Him. And then He disappeared.
We take God so lightly, in our narcissism we believe Him to be all about us. As our Creator, we are to be all about Him and He treats us that way! (more…)
Proverbs 28.9 describes, God has no use for the prayers of the people who won’t listen to Him.
Everyone prays. Sometimes or all the time but everyone prays because everyone is broken. All of us hope, want, God to intervene in our life even when we are doing all we can to control its outcome. (more…)
Daniel 9.15-17 laments, Master, you are our God, for you delivered your people from the land of Egypt
in a show of power—people are still talking about it! We confess that we have sinned, that we have lived bad lives….We know it’s our fault that this has happened, all because of our sins and our parents’ sins, and now we’re an embarrassment to everyone around us. We’re a blot on the neighborhood….Act out of Who You are, not out of what we are.
Daniel read God’s word so he could know God’s will, then he prayed for God’s people to be restored to God’s will as described in God’s word. Daniel understood from God’s word that God’s people were disobedient to God’s will which explained their current calamity. (more…)
2 Kings 6.33 observes, the LORD is responsible for this disaster! Why should I continue to wait for the
LORD to help?
On the eve of his deliverance the king of Israel loses his hope and gives up on God. The king had faith as long as he could but he finally reached his breaking point. All of his praying, all of his fasting, all of his trying to do the right thing culminated in nothing in his mind. (more…)
Ezekiel 8.6 observes, son of man, do you see what they are doing – the great abominations that the people of Israel are practicing here, to drive Me far from My sanctuary? But you will see greater
abominations than these!
This snapshot into the life of Israel records them fasting and praying seeking God’s mercy and favor for changing their miserable situation. Difficult times has the affect of moving us to prayer. Israel was trying to market themselves to God as penitent, faithful and obedient.
Yet God sees all, not just the religious show we put on for Him. (more…)
