““As for you, Solomon my son, know the God of your father, and serve him wholeheartedly and with a willing mind, for the Lord searches every heart and understands the intention of every thought. If you seek him, he will be found by you, but if you abandon him, he will reject you forever. Realize now that the Lord has chosen you to build a house for the sanctuary. Be strong, and do it.”” 1 Chronicles 28:9-10 CSB https://bible.com/bible/1713/1ch.28.9-10.CSB
Who we are and why we are here are the identity questions of the day. They have always been asked, but until recently, our answer came from Scripture and not from a pagan perspective that ignores or denies God. David’s charge to his son Solomon answers these questions and can be applied to all of us who love God and have surrendered our will to the Lordship of Jesus the King. We are to know God. We are His creation, His children, if reconciled to Him through Jesus. This is who we are, children of God, demonstrating such lineage through loving Him and obeying His commands. We know that the God Who exists is the God Who determines the eternal future of all people based upon their obedience to His commands recorded in the Scriptures, so we seek to know His ways in those Scriptures so that when we are judged, we will not be found wanting. What are we to do? We are to build His kingdom. The Great Commission is the mission of every Christian. We are no longer building temples, for the children of God are the true temple of God, where He lives within each one of us by His Holy Spirit given to us for working out our salvation and revealing His presence through us in the world. We must be strong in doing God’s work, proclaiming the gospel, and teaching obedience to God’s word among the saved. It takes strength of resolve to stay focused on this objective and persevere when pagans persecute us because they stubbornly refuse to repent before the One True God. Our identity is in Jesus. We belong to Him to serve Him for His glory so that we can live forever with Him in His eternal kingdom.
