The Benefits of Salvation: Never Forget What God Has Done

(Psa) 103:2-4, 8, 10-12, 17-18 CJB “Bless Adonai, my soul, and forget none of his benefits! He forgives all your offenses, he heals all your diseases, he redeems your life from the pit, he surrounds you with grace and compassion, Adonai is merciful and compassionate, slow to anger and rich in grace. He has not treated us as our sins deserve or paid us back for our offenses, because his mercy toward those who fear him is as far above earth as heaven. He has removed our sins from us as far as the east is from the west. But the mercy of Adonai on those who fear him is from eternity past to eternity future, and his righteousness extends to his children’s children, provided they keep his covenant and remember to follow his precepts.”

One of the greatest dangers for every Christian man is forgetting the benefits of salvation. Life’s pressures can consume our attention with work, finances, family responsibilities, and personal struggles until we lose sight of the greatest gift God has ever given us. David calls us back to the proper perspective:

“Bless Adonai, my soul, and forget none of his benefits!” (Psalm 103:2)

The Christian life begins and continues with remembering what God has done for us through Jesus Christ.

Remember the Benefits of Salvation

Psalm 103 is a celebration of God’s saving work.

He forgives every sin.

He redeems us from the pit.

He crowns us with steadfast love and compassion.

He surrounds His children with mercy that stretches from eternity past to eternity future.

These are not temporary blessings. They are eternal realities secured by Christ through His death and resurrection.

The gospel is the announcement that God became man so sinful men might be forgiven, reconciled, and welcomed into His eternal kingdom. Jesus willingly bore our judgment so we would never bear God’s condemnation.

God does not keep a record of our sins in order to punish those who belong to Christ. Instead, because of His immeasurable mercy and abundant grace, He has removed our sins “as far as the east is from the west.”

That is the heart of the benefits of salvation.

Salvation Produces Obedience

God’s grace never produces careless living.

Instead, His grace creates grateful worship.

David reminds us that God’s covenant mercy belongs to those who fear Him, who remember His covenant, and who seek to obey His commands. Scripture consistently teaches that obedience is never the cause of salvation but the evidence of genuine faith.

We are saved entirely by God’s grace through the finished work of Jesus Christ. Yet those who have truly been redeemed are transformed by the indwelling Holy Spirit to desire what pleases God.

Jesus Himself lived this perfect pattern.

He always did what pleased His Father.

Now those united to Christ increasingly walk in that same direction—not to earn God’s love, but because they have already received it.

The World Sees Christ Through Our Obedience

The world desperately needs to see the character of God.

When believers forgive, show mercy, extend grace, pursue peace, and love sacrificially, they display the beauty of the Savior they proclaim.

Our obedience becomes an act of worship.

Our holiness becomes our testimony.

Our lives demonstrate that God truly restores sinners through Jesus Christ.

The Church exists to reflect the goodness, kindness, mercy, grace, and peace of God so that others may see Christ and glorify the Father.

The benefits of salvation are not merely enjoyed—they are displayed through lives transformed by the Holy Spirit.
