word that comes from the mouth of God.
The Scripture, God’s Word, does not say, man should not, but rather, man must not, live on bread alone. Jesus, God Himself, had not eaten for forty days. It would do no good for the Savior to die of starvation rather than crucifixion. (more…)
2 Corinthians 12.10 observes, I take pleasure in weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and in difficulties, for the sake of Christ. For
when I am weak, then I am strong.
I am not a fan of any of these things Paul says he will boast of, for when he is weak then he is strong. Paul says these things because the presence of the Lord within Him becomes increasingly obvious through Him when he is weak. (more…)
Ezekiel 7.19 describes, they will throw their silver into the streets, and their gold will seem like something filthy. Their silver and gold will be unable to save them in the day of the Lord’s wrath. They will not satisfy their appetites or fill their stomachs, for these were the stumbling blocks that brought about their iniquity.
It is our love for money that keeps us from loving God. We say we love God not money yet our love is proved by our deeds and not by our words. We don’t skip work, we work to earn the money we need to buy the things we want. Yet we skip church, we skip prayer, we skip Bible reading and study, we skip sharing Jesus with the world around us. Most of Christendom struggles in their intimacy with God through Jesus Christ. Most Christians believe in Him but too many do not really know Him. Jeremiah 13.11 describes, just as underwear clings to one’s waist, so I fastened the whole house of Israel and of Judah to Me” — this is the Lord’s declaration — “so that they might be My people for My fame, praise, and glory, but they would not obey. The catechism would state that the purpose of man is to glorify God and enjoy Him forever. Perhaps the 21st century version should say, the purpose of man is to make God look good to the world and enjoy the process. (more…)
Jeremiah 7.23 describes, however, I did give them this command: Obey Me, and then I will be your God, and you will be My people. Follow every way I command you so that it may go well with you.
For the most part we prefer religion over obedience. Religion is easier. Religion keeps us in charge of determining if we are pleasing to God or not. Religion requires the least amount of effort and sacrifice. Religion gives power to a small group of people. Religion keeps things at the surface level rather than at the motive level. Revelation 21.7 describes, the one who conquers will inherit these things, and I will be his God, and he will be My son.
At the end of God’s Word, the Bible, where He describes the new heavens and the new earth, He says those who will live with Him forever are not those who believe, nor those who prayed a prayer, but those who conquered. What did these, who are acceptable to God, conquer? (more…)
Deuteronomy 17.19 describes, it is to remain with him, and he is to read from it all the days of his life, so that he may learn to fear the Lord his God, to observe all the words of this instruction, and to do these statutes.
The king of Israel, after his appointment, was to write his own copy of God’s law from which he was to read daily so that he knew what it said in order to do what it said. Today all people everywhere have the possibility to access the Scriptures in a language they understand. Not all can read. Not all have legal access and not all have the Scriptures in their primary tongue but the Scriptures do exist in over half the world’s known languages. (more…)
